Lake Merritt sketches

I did some sketching by the side of Lake Merritt after grabbing pho with some friends. I know Oakland can get a bad rap, but the stretch down Lakeshore is just beautiful. Real, everyday settings have become fascinating to me, and stuff like The Wire really shows me how powerful the authentic and ‘mundane’ can be for storytelling.

More caricatures and World Cup sketching (people seem to ask, so this is from the Ghana v. Uruguay game). I find drawing action to be insanely difficult and I have the highest respect for the animators and other artists who do it well. Luckily I have Walt Stanchfield as a guide. ;)

Reverie

This is an image I don’t want to explain too much about… hopefully it’s self-evident enough. It’s one of the most personal Sketches I’ve ever done. At the very least, it expresses the confusion and finality I feel about the greatest mystery of our human existence.

(Sometime later, I would like to make this a full piece.)
